Manfred Mayerle will present
in the project room 120 transcendent minimalist ink works on paper, his daily investigations of a pure conscious moment. Manfred Mayerle who lives and works in Munich, Germany, also brings to his work a concentrated interest in the modular, stemming in part from his long involvement melding painting into a variety of architectural projects. His meditative and carefully constructed drawings are subtly built line by line utilizing a collection of nibs made by a craftsman to his specifications. These nibs vary in width and with an extensive repertory of touch Mayerle brings to his line a seemingly endless array of qualities from the sharp and opaque to the broad and painterly. While the grid is used as an organizing principle, its formal juxtaposition of the horizontal and vertical is made accessible by the distinctly human and handmade nature of the marks to be found in these drawings. Within the confines of this systemic approach Mayerle exhibits a wonderful degree of resourcefulness in a masterly display of theme and variation that conjures a contemporary visual parallel to Bach's Goldberg Variations.

Manfred Mayerle has shown his paintings and drawings extensively throughout Europe and the U.S. and has realized numerous architectural commissions for sculpture and very large scale site specific paintings throughout Germany.
